Very good MidiLathe
It really needs a digital readout for speedcontrol.
It is heavy so make sure you have some grunt help to set it up on stand or whatever

The machine just purrs along with sufficient power to do most anything you wish.

Great features and easy to use. 1hp motor has plenty of power. Would not bog down aggressively turning 3" maple cylinder.

Lathe was ok Warranty not so
My lathe was the older version but I only had it 4 years before the motor burned out. The Lathe had only been used for 4 years it sat in the back of a shop in the box for a bit longer. But it was a Delta It should be fine to buy Delta always stands by there products, so I thought. So I call to order a new motor None, they dont make them. And they leave me with a bad taste in my mouth not even willing to help me out. So much for the warranty, and standing behind your product. I will never buy another delta/ portercable product for my shop.

terrific piece of equipment
I'm new to turning, so I have no background to draw on, but so far this machine is everything I had hoped for and more. Super smooth in operation and seems to have plenty of power. Time will tell.

I love this lathe
I am a novice lathe user and took up pen making. This lathe meets more than I expected. It is so quiet and smooth running that my neighbor is also going to order the same model. I am also about to make some chess pieces as well. I have yet to find any cons.

Easy To Use
I'm very satisfied with it.
No problem turning small items such as pens or boxes. Great for bowls and plates. Up to 12-1/2" is the most useful sizes. It may not long enough for the useful spindle work but it's an advantage for compactness if you don't do spindle work. Optional extension is available if you need one.
It has very smooth and quiet operation, no significant vibration. Variable speed is also handy for large or irregular stocks and reversible switch is a plus for sanding. Switch position is little too high to reach but it's not that bad. The plastic belt cover was flimsy and was broken when I received it. It is not critical but need some improvement in the future. Over all it is great product. I highly recommend it.

Can this tool be used to make pool cues? I am looking for my husband, & he says he needs a metal lathe. Is this a wood lathe?
mickey on Aug 8, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this is a wood lathe. You would not be able to make pool cues just with the lathe only. You would need a bed extensions to add an additional 25-1/2" or 2 depending on the length of the cue sticks. Also, you would need a stand and and extension for the lathe and each of the bed extensions.
Who is selling accessories for this product, Delta has only a few, Delrprotercable which they have in the manual is Portercable, Woodcraft no laonger has any Delta wood lathe product, why don't you offer a more complete list for them? Delta has the lathe pick as the best just by a hair and some one needs to support the product or they will drop just as woodturning is picking up.

BEST ANSWER: We have a number of accessories for this lathe available here on our site.
